How much will a translation cost?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to answer this question across-the-board as the price for a translation may be affected by many different factors.
However, I do want to give you a general overview of the rates, but please remember to consider them only as approximate values.
To obtain a more detailed quote, please do not hesitate to contact me by E-mail or by filling out the contact form and attach the text to be translated completely or, in case of very long texts, partially.
Factors which may affect the price
- Deadline
- Working at night and at weekends
- File format
- Research effort
- Level of difficulty
The price for a translation from Spanish, Portuguese or English into German is calculated per word counted in the source text.
Basic rate per word: € 0.14 per word
Minimum charge: € 25.00
The basic rate may increase due to the factors listed above:
In case of a very urgent translation that needs to be completed overnight or over the weekend, I add a surcharge of 30 %.
Some file formats are more complicated to deal with than others and I need more time than usual for the preparatory work. That is why file formats such as PPT, PDF, etc. also increase the basic rate.
And finally, research effort and the level of difficulty of a text is a crucial factor for the time that I need for the translation.
A complicated text requires intensive research work in order to deliver a professional result and although I am more than happy to do said research, this will affect the overall cost of the translation.
Editing and proofreading are charged at an hourly rate.
Hourly rate: € 35.00 per hour
Minimum charge: € 15.00
Both editing and proofreading will only be carried out in my mother tongue German.
To give you an approximate idea of how much your order will cost, I have listed below how much I am able to proofread or correct approximately per hour.
Simple proofreading exclusively focusses on spelling, punctuation, typos and grammatical errors. You can count with approx. 5 minutes per page* for reading through the text and correcting possible errors.
Editing additionally includes the verification of writing style, consistency, logic and coherence of the content. In the case of a translation, your text is also compared accurately against the source text. Since this involves significantly more effort than only proofreading a text, I need more time accordingly. You can count with approx. 8 minutes per page*.
These indications are only average values since the quality of the text and the amount of corrections to be made are decisive.
*One page corresponds to 1,500 characters.
